Courtyard In The News:
At UCI on April 7, 2005, Debo Kotun,
producer of the radio program The
Courtyard, recorded the ICWT event
“Out of English: Korean, African, and
Irish Visions.” The following Saturday Kotun broadcast the event, and, because of great interest and response to that show, he scheduled additional appearances of the participants from “Out of English....”

Review of The Courtyard by Geo Beach of Airmedia.org:
"Wow. This is radio soup, and there's something in here that's good for your soul. Actually, it's more like a goulash, a gumbo, a masala. And it's good for your chakras and chi too....Think of Labalaba as a hitchhiker's guide to your very own orb. EP Debo Kotun is some kind of magician, letting you get to know some of your neighbors "in local universe" (as Bucky Fuller would say) with a unique, back-porch ease....Engaging, Quirky, Suprising"--Geo Beach.
Courtyard In The News:
....'As I am speaking to you now, there is a Radio station in the United States (U.S.), which devotes a programme (Courtyard) on the Anambra matter. It is a public debate programme'--Prof. Wole Soyinka.

POGROM IN KENYA
AVOIDABLE OR INEVITABLE?

The recent tragedy in Kenya is yet another evidence that the African Continent is awash in its own blood. The hitherto poster-country of tranquility and peace on the oxymoronic "richest continent with the poorest people in the world" has been forced out of hibernation.

A radio broadcast of a new play by award-winning dramatist Rick Mitchell. As Hurricane Katrina hits New Orleans, a man stands in a rapidly flooding attic, trying to break through the roof. Inadvertently, he travels back in history, to New Orleans and California, ending up in the midst of other disasters, both “natural” and otherwise, while discovering that natural catastrophe and racial conflict are never far removed. Performances directed by Hope Alexander, music and musical direction by Max Kinberg, engineered by Jeehyun Lee, produced by Debo Kotun. (Note: this new play is based, in part, on recent interviews with disaster survivors, as well as on archival research.)

In Katrina's Wake: Portraits of Loss from an Unnatural Disaster
By:
Elizabeth, Royte, Bill McKibben, Susan Zakin, & Chris Jordan (Photographer)
In this powerful collaborative project, photographer Chris Jordan and acclaimed writers Bill McKibben and Susan Zakin combine their perspectives on the causes and consequences of the 2005 Hurricane Katrina disaster. Jordan 's photographs portray the storm's devastation on a personal scale, framing poignantly desolate details in the ruined landscape. Richly crafted essays by McKibben and Zakin probe into the complex human factors involved in the catastrophe. Victoria Sloan Jordan 's poems touch the emotional terrain with an eloquent spareness that echoes the austere visual landscape. Taken together, these four viewpoints bear witness to this profound tragedy and raise challenging questions about the cultural conditions that contributed to its unprecedented severity.
